Social media is fan. But it can come with a lot of troubles if care is not taken. Our young ladies especially these days meet people they met on social media without taking due caution.

In the wake of the reported string of kidnappings, this is a little advice for our young people especially the girls and ladies who cannot avoid meeting physically with people they met online.

It is advised that whenever you want to meet physically with someone you met on social media, you consider the following;

1.Choose a secured, well lit, and convenient place where you’re comfortable.

2.Ensure that apart from the exchange of messages, you talk to the person several times over the phone before meeting him personally/physically.

3.Bring a friend along anytime you want to meet up with someone you met on social media.

4.Avoid alcohol on your first or subsequent days and until you have established the genuineness of the person.

5.Ask lots of questions when you get to meet. You can repeat the same question in different ways several times over just to be sure that you are not outsmarted.

6.Keep your first meeting brief and don’t share too much information about yourself, business or residential address with the person.

7.Take personal belongings with you. Have your ID cards with you.

8.Keep your phone fully charged and close to you as possible. Keep police emergency numbers (18555 and 191) on speed dial just so that you press it anytime you suspect danger.

9.Be familiar with the description and terrain of area you meet with your online date so you can escape easily in case of any attempt on your life.
