Life leaves its mark wherever we go, whether it is seen or unseen.
My definition for Life, as a young man has always being about brightening the corner wherever I find myself.
Just like other colleagues, especially my Course mates, I had high hopes for my career when I first stepped foot at the Prison Officers’ Training School in 2016.
These were formative days but I still dreamt of having a wonderful future in the Prison Service come what may.
When I got posted to the Bawku Local Prison, I knew I was going to an unfamiliar environment and very far from home; hence I needed to be on top of my game, leaving inspiring foot prints on those who will come after me.
Until I met my two colleagues here in Bawku and how impactful they’ve become, I never saw myself building a relationship that will go beyond working colleagues but going forward and with loneliness and boredom setting in, I’ve come to appreciate them.
Over the years I have come to appreciate that, one is fortunate to have colleagues whom he can even call family without thinking twice.
Coming to work in Bawku and meeting Lance Corporal Ametepe Elorm and Lance Corporal Okyere Frank, have been one of the best things that have ever happened to me in my Prison Officer career. These two gentlemen have come to play major roles in my life and my career.
As I always put it, you spend most of your time on the job, so when you don’t like the people you work with, it makes getting through the day a lot harder; but if you come enjoy each other’s company, you’re bound to have a lot happier and productive days.
These men are possibly the reason why this saying “Some Friends Stick than Brothers”.
We are all working together to leave footprints in our families, workplace, the environment in which we find ourselves and one more time, I know not what the outcome will be, just that it will be good. We will continue to brighten the corner where we are.
We cannot stop leaving this trail of imprints, for even in our absence, silence or inaction, they remain, leaving an impression on those who follow.
And how far do these imprints travel? Are they confined to just that one person we interact with, or our family, friends, colleagues etc. No, it is about leaving good imprints wherever you are so do not wait to celebrate people when they die, give them their flowers whilst they can still smell it.
