Amidst growing controversy, Ghanaian businessman Joseph Anderson finds himself in the eye of a storm after making contentious remarks against the harsh laws being targeted at the LGBTQ community. The Kumasi based mini-industrialist, known for his works in the auto parts, has seen a significant downturn in his business fortunes following his outspoken stance against what he termed “harsh conditions.”
The auto spare parts dealer’s comments, made during a street interview by a local radio station, sparked an outrage across his business community and on social media within Kumasi. In his statement, Anderson believes people living as LGBTQ should be allowed just as any one and not be jailed because he believes worse happens in the prison.
“What is the sense in jailing an LGBTQ person into prison when worse stuff does happen in our prisons. I have a relative who have been to prison before and can attest to the fact that, same sex is being practiced in there but the inmates indulging in it are counselled and not sentenced again”, he reiterated.
However, the backlash was swift and severe. Many, home and abroad condemned him for promoting the same sex agenda and called for the boycotts of his shops and other business.
As a result, his auto spare parts shops have faced a notable low sale, investor interest.
According to Kwame, he still believes the rules are harsh and should be reconsidered. As it stands, the fate of his businesses remains uncertain. The case serves as a poignant reminder of the complex intersection between personal beliefs, public perception, and economic realities.
