In the wake of recent heavy rain falls being experienced across the country, the Ghana National Fire Service wishes to advice the general public to exercise utmost caution whilst going about their day to day activities and adhere to weather warnings.
Heavy rain falls are likely to cause flooding of houses and render roads impassable, unmotorable and slippery thereby posing great danger to occupants and road users. One can also be struck by flying objects falling from a height which can cause injuries to the body or even death especially during rain storms.
Ghana National Fire Service deems it necessary to share tit-bits on dos and don’ts during rains to ensure safety:-
Get your roof prepared if you have any leakages
Desilt gutters and drains to ensure free flow of water
Check your electrical fittings to ensure that they don’t catch fire or give shocks during the rains.
Fix broken ceilings and windows to prevent rain water from coming into your room.
Move your property to a high area
Evacuate to a high land area
It is important to be abreast with water forecast on daily basis.
Assembly an emergency food supply, water and other needs
Exercise precautions when driving before or after a down pour
Avoid the beaches and outdoor pools
Do not walk in flowing or stagnant water
Avoid taking shelter under trees and electrical poles during rains.
It is safer to put off source of electric power when you experience thunder and lightning.
